Language of the Cayman Islands

English is the primary language in the Cayman Islands, and it is spoken with a unique lilt, one a little different from accents in other areas of the Caribbean. It's a reminder of the islands' earliest ancestors with Welsh, Scottish, and English heritage. You'll often hear Jamaican patois as well.

Because English is the official language, you will quickly notice that it follows British, not American, spellings such as colour, travellers, and centre.
