Cayman Brac Hikes
Hikers and birders will also be interested in the series of Heritage Sites and Trails. This extensive program of trails throughout the island
was recently instituted by the Department of Tourism and includes 35 marked
trails. Some are easy to reach while others require more hiking. Visitors
can obtain a free map and brochure of the trails from the Department of
Tourism office (located adjacent to the Cayman Brac Community Park, 345/948-1849).
Sites include the West End Point Overlook on the South Side Road west of Brac Reef Beach Resort; this lookout is an easily accessible point and good for birdwatching as well as the island's best sunset view. Nearby, the Westerly Ponds are good spots for watching wetlands birds. Boardwalks lead to a small viewing area. For hikers, the Beach Walk to First Cay, on the southeast shore at the southeast end of South Side Road, takes about two hours and follows the shoreline below the Bluff.
